It’s my birthday weekend! Come celebrate with me.
If you’re new here, I’m Adryan (they/them). I’ve been publishing writing online for over a decade. I started my online writing career in college through reporting for the student newspaper as well as a small celebrity gossip blog, to eventually contributing political think pieces to millennial-policy-news-site-turned-multi-million-dollar-media-company, Mic. After graduating, I pivoted to freelance journalism and collected bylines at other notable publications like Teen Vogue, Playboy, Vice, Esquire, and more.
After the pandemic, I left working in journalism full-time from burnout. Over a year ago, while working a day job in marketing, I started this newsletter because I craved a new kind of creative outlet. Ever since, I’ve written what I’m passionate about, including pop culture topics like my favorite movie (inaccurately categorized as “one of the worst films ever made”) called I Know Who Killed Me, my one and only Warped Tour experience, Britney Spears, Spotify Wrapped, and more. I’ve also been inspired to start a memoir project revolving around my experiences growing up online in the ‘00s, back when social media was the Wild West.
Here are some of my favorite pieces to catch you up to speed.
If you’re not new here, thank you so much for being on this journey with me! I’m eternally grateful for every free subscriber who opens my emails. My newsletter on overage has over a 60 percent open rate (!!!!!) and it makes my heart so full to know people are reading my work.
I also turned on paid subscriptions earlier this year. If you have the means and want to support this newsletter even more, consider upgrading to a paid subscription.
Shout out to my existing founding and paid subscribers—you are the realest!
Thank you all for being here.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
